POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Quality Director, the Stroke Coordinator serves as an expert clinician and patient/client advocate and integrates education, research, management, leadership, and consultation into the role to achieve quality outcomes and practices in a collegial relationship with physicians, nursing peers and other professionals to enhance patient care and the health care environment.

The Stroke Coordinator maintains knowledge of professional and industry trends, works with Nursing Leadership to create a work environment that facilitates and encourages nursing staff to demonstrate accountability for their own practice, and participates in organizational and community initiatives to improve the professional practice of nursing and quality of patient outcomes/care.

The Stroke Coordinator is responsible for initiating, guiding, and directing the coordination of services provided by the Stroke Center, adhering to the standards as listed by the American Stroke Association, and functions as a resource person for staff members and assists in necessary education to promote effective management of the stroke patient.

Reports performance improvement data to appropriate committees. (i.e. Stroke Committee, Performance Improvement), co-ordinates Stroke Committee meeting’s, builds public awareness by through assisting with community education of stroke awareness and works collaboratively with nursing units to ensure evidenced based practice is provided for stroke patients.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • On the job training in use of
    computer.
  • Eight hours stroke education annually to include NIHS Scale certification.
  • Minimum of three years of clinical practice with emphasis on leadership and management experience.
  • BLS required upon hire.
  • All other certifications due within 30 days of hire date, i.e, ACLS, PALS. NRP within first 6 months of employment and NIHSS within a year.
